WhatsApp Accountability Playbook: From Random Complaints to Real Community Action

WhatsApp chat bubbles and checklist illustration for community action

Every Nigerian street has a WhatsApp group. And every WhatsApp group has:

  • One person wey dey forward “BREAKING!!!” like it’s salary.
  • One aunty wey dey pray for everybody.
  • Two people wey dey fight generator noise like it’s presidential debate.

But here’s the twist: if you organise am well, that same group fit become accountability engine.

Step 1: Pick one issue per week

Flooding, refuse, security, school fees, clinic access. One issue at a time, so everybody no scatter.

Step 2: Collect proof, not just anger

Photos, short videos, dates. “Yesterday 7pm” is more powerful than “since last year”.

Step 3: Identify the right office

Some issues are LGA. Some are state. Some are agency. If you drag wrong person, you go waste energy.

Step 4: Share the profile link and rate with facts

Instead of 500 messages, share the relevant profile, then everyone submits a clear rating and review. That’s structured feedback.

When people rate with facts, the gist becomes data — and data is harder to ignore.
